That bottom of the 4th / top of the 5th stretch was gruelling to watch, on both sides - Dice-K suddenly losing control, Pettitte doing even worse. A long, long slog. But boy, was it a fun result. (Rivera with a 12.15 ERA?) I know Lugo will get all the attention with 3 hits and 3 RBIs, but did I ever mention I love pre-All Star Break Mike Lowell?
I will, actually, be going to New York. Sadly, it will be after the series - will be in NYC for the next couple of weeks for work. But excited to see if I can catch any games...

You know, the Skydome was the first ballpark I'd ever been to. Visited in 1993, in the good years for Toronto fans. So I have a soft spot of sorts for the Jays.
That said: the Jays are a blight on the face of this planet.

Wow, back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers. Only the 5th time it's been done in baseball history (and kudos to Baseball Almanac for getting the info in so soon). And thus did the Sox Chase Wright. One moment I glance at the screen hoping for something to happen, and finally I decide to go to the bathroom, and bam, 4 homers in 10 pitches. Next time I hope for a rally you'll find me in the loo.
The nice part about baseball history is that one learns that Tito Francona (senior) was part of the 5 teams that have done it.
Although J.D. Drew must be thinking, what's all the fuss, I was part of one last year as well.
Wow, for the first two innings I was worried about Josh Beckett... but looks like he's back in business. I have to say, despite Okajima's work yesterday, I'm still scared of seeing A-Rod on deck these days. Good thing Papelbon got the save as he did.
Incidentally, Buster Olney has an interview with David Ortiz for ESPN Insider subscribers. It does sound like his friendship with Kevin Millar was a good one: "Kevin does a great job of keeping all the guys in the clubhouse relaxed. He has so many funny jokes … Man it's hard just to pick one, there were so many. Overall, Kevin was a great teammate, I really miss that guy."

Now that's a come from behind win. And nice to see Cora and Crisp becoming useful.

Classy thing the Nats did, wearing the Virginia Tech caps. Terrible, terrible news. What a messed-up world.
What is it about the Sox and left-handed pitching? Or the bloody Blue Jays? Or Gustavo "I look like a Bond villain" Chacin?
Sadly, I fear the Dice-K and Pedro comparisons will extend beyond their repertoire of pitches and the electric atmosphere in the stands and towards the seeming vanishing ability of their hitters to hit and give them run support.

You know, if a 'bad' outing for Dice-K is7IP, 3ER, I will be a very happy man. But Felix Hernandez was on, on, on - at the rate Felix was going it didn't feel like anyone could get a run, and I was just happy to see J.D. Drew get the hit.

I stayed up till 4am for this? Okay, I was also staying up to fulfil my OCD tendencies - cataloguing my MP3 collection - but still. Ack. What is it now, six games in a row lost to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium? The Kansas freakin' Royals. Gil freakin' Meche.
Gil! I hear the name, and I think of Gil from the Simpsons (the Glengarry Glen Ross parody character). And yet, there he was, justifying his ridiculous price tag.
The sky ain't falling yet - but eurgh, what a start to the season.
